GEOGRAPHICAL PROCESSES

The geographical processes of Urban growth and Decline are:

  • Urban Sprawl: This is the outgrowth of cities at the urban rural fringe
  • The doughnut effect: This is where the people move from the city centre to the cities outer suburbs
  • Urban Decline: This is where the inner city falls into disrepair because people have moved out
  • Urban Consolidation: This is where more people are housed into a smaller area
  • Urban Renewal: This is where there is redevelopment of brownfield sites and slums for higher density
  • Reurbanisation: This is where people move back into the inner city and change and renovate the old buildings to make them trendy to live in.
